Well it seems that all thoce clever Apple commercials have finally hit home for me. Today, after applying a windows update, my primary desktop Pc returned a blue screen of death with the error message ‘UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME’. Now of course this hard drive is less than a year old and has never thown a SMART error code so I highly doubt it is a hardware failure. Besides, windows is able to load the recovery environment, so the disk must be readable.
I’m not one of those anti windows Mac addicts or anything, but I am becoming more anti vista by the minute. Thank goodness for Acronis True image and thank goodness I had the forethought to create an image of the entire drive (including the OEM recovery partition should that be necessary). My notebook is beat to heel and happliy chugging along with Windows XP. I’m giving serious though to either installing Ubuntu on that machine or reverting to XP The only problem being that I don’t actually have a full version of XP laying around at the moment.
most of my music library is MP3 format so at least I’ll be able to port that over to LINUX.
